3 Levels Of Six Sigma Certification

6 Sigma certification has multiple levels. All those levels have been titled as “Belts”. The title of all the belts was coined in relation to martial arts. Each belt requires us to carry different skills and responsibility. In case of a project implementation, the classification of belts would also lead to different roles. The certification comes in 3 skill levels:

  1. Six Sigma Green Belt: Six Sigma Green Belt certified personnel are Six Sigma project leaders capable of forming and facilitating Six Sigma teams and managing Six Sigma projects from concept to completion. While some organizations have a Yellow Belt for Six Sigma, the industry-wide standard recognizes Green Belt as the most basic certification level available. Professionals who are Six Sigma Green Belt certified personnel are expected to be familiar with all the tools and techniques which are required to implement the “Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC)” portion of the improvement framework
  2. Six Sigma Black Belt: Six Sigma Black Belt certified personnel is technically oriented individuals held in high regard by their peers. They should be actively involved in the process of organizational change and development. They are often asked to lead teams consisting of green belts and are expected to devote 100% of their time and attention to working with the Six Sigma methodology
  3. Master Black Belt: This is the highest level of technical and organizational proficiency. Master Black Belts provide technical leadership to the Six Sigma program. Thus, they must know everything the Black Belts knows, as well as additional skills vital to the success of the Six Sigma program. The additional skill might be deep understanding of the mathematical theory on which the statistical methods are based
